Second week: Trip to Ciudad del Este and Iguazú Falls

Hello everyone,

I wanted to write a post again now that is has been two weeks since we arrived in Paraguay.  Ian left yesterday and will be arriving in Cleveland sometime this afternoon.  We had a very nice visit and I was happy to be able to make this big transition with someone I love!  I wanted to fill you all in on some of the things that we have been up to in the last few weeks.

First of all, it is important to know that I have converted many people into Cavs fans so we have all been following the games and cheering for the Cavs all the way from Paraguay!

Ian and I decided to go to Ciudad del Este last Wednesday to visit our friend Diego, who spent a year in Cleveland with AFS a few years ago.  We decided to fly because Ian's back was bothering him and we thought a 30 minute flight would be better than a 6 hour bus ride.  I will add a picture of what we could see out of the window on the plane...we watched the sun rise and it was pretty cool.

We arrived there at 6:30 am and decided that later on that day we would go to Salto Monday, which is a small but beautiful waterfall in Paraguay, close to Iguazú falls.  I have been there before but I had no problems going back because it is very beautiful.  I will but some pictures below so you can see what we saw!

We had a great day seeing this waterfall and it was just preparing us to the the more grand falls of Iguazú!

We decided to go to the falls the following day, and luckily we did because the weather was very cooperative for us!  We left in the morning and went to the river where we could take a barge to take us to Argentina.  It was really neat because in this place you can see three countries at one time.  The countries are Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina.  We decided to go the Argentinian side because Ian did not have a Brazilian visa and also I had not seen the Argentinian side of the falls yet.  I will attach a picture of all of us (Diego's family and us) crossing over to Argentina.
We crossed over, got our stamps from immigration in Argentina and then made our way to the falls!  I noticed that the Argentinian side had almost no waiting to get a ticket and it was generally just hassle free.  Although we did go on a Thursday, so I do not know what it is like on the weekends.  When I went to the Brazilian side we waited in line for an hour or so and it was very crowded and crazy.  The falls in Argentina have so many places to walk and many interesting views of the falls that I think Brazil lacked.  There were definitely pros and cons to both.  There were many pesky coati and monkeys around stealing food.  One monkey stole a whole pizza, put it under his arm and the got on his hind legs and ran off with it!  It was pretty funny.  Ian seemed to really enjoy this part of the trip.  If you have not had the chance to visit Iguazú, you should make it a priority because it is a pretty amazing place.  Here are a few pictures from the falls.

We had such a nice trip and hopefully we will get to go back there soon!  That is all for now.  I will update more soon when I know more about where I will be working and what I will be doing.  I am very happy here and officially doing it by myself!  Thanks for following along...feel free to write me here in the comments if you like!  Thanks again for reading, I'll be posting again in the next few weeks.
